G'Day Mate

Alaska brings people together.  Case in point: during my First Friday exhibit earlier this month in downtown Juneau, my first customers of the evening were a cute couple of tourists who came into the store and walked straight up to me, letting out a sudden and LOUD squeal.  I stared back at them blankly, wondering to myself, "Oh boy, this is going to be interesting!"  And interesting it quickly became.

As the woman spoke rapidly, I noticed her charming Australian accent.  I hollered when I realized who was standing in front of me.  At first I didn't recognize them because it had been four years since I had last seen them, when we first met during a day cruise to Tracy Arm Fjord. But lo and behold, there they were - Barb and Tony Blair, my friends from Melbourne, Australia.

Barb and Tony had been traveling through Alaska for five weeks, so they hadn't been on Facebook yet to see the announcement about my art show.  They just happened to be in Juneau, walking down Seward Street when they saw the sidewalk sign advertising my show.  Recognizing my name, they waltzed right in and gave me such a big surprise!

We were able to catch up over lunch a week later when they found themselves traveling through Juneau again.  It was so wonderful to share a meal with my two friends from Down Under.  Needless to say, I'm looking forward to seeing them again - and next time it'll on their home turf - Australia in 2016!

Barb and Tony gave me a big surprise during my First Friday show.

All smiles in Juneau, Alaska.

One must take a selfie with friends when they visit from halfway across the world! I just adore Barb's sweet expression in this picture.

FLASHBACK: I took this photo in 2011 when I first met Barb and Tony.  They were all smiles then - and still are!

Fantastic First Friday

September's First Friday is a wrap! I am beyond thankful for the outpouring of support from my friends and the Juneau community. Thank you, everyone, who came out to celebrate the show and encourage my work. You folks are simply THE BEST!

I'd like to give a special shout out to my co-host, Dru Fenster, believing in me and helping make my dream a reality. Thank you, Dru, for being a remarkable woman and making a difference in so so much.

I'd also like to recognize my Momma who was able to be in Juneau for my big debut. I'm so glad we got to share this moment together. Naturally, she is my #1 Fan. I dedicate this collection to her.

Tonight was such a blessing. We raised money for AWARE, and I had the time of my life, sharing my passion for Alaska. I hope you enjoy the photos below from the evening's festivities. Thanks for all the love and support!

First Time for First Friday

Friends, I'm over-the-moon excited to announce I will be hosting my first solo photography exhibit, "You Know Juneau – A Southern Belle’s Observations on Life in the Last Frontier"!

If you find yourself in the Juneau area this Friday, September 4, stop by GCI's downtown store at 118 Seward Street.  My photographs highlighting my adventures in and around Juneau will be on display from 4:00-6:30pm.  And since I can't get enough of iPhoneography, I'll also have some colorful Instagram collages on display that will hopefully inspire adventure, too.

Swing by for a little Southern hospitality, great photos, and refreshments.  Displayed photographs will be available for sale, and print orders are welcome. A portion of all photo sales are going to support AWARE, Inc.

Here's a sneak peak of Friday's exhibit. Enjoy and hope to see you soon!

Spoiled by Rainbows

Living in a rainforest has its benefits. Sometimes, there are rainbows upon rainbows upon rainbows. Take today for example. Three beauties in the sky, all within a few hours of each other. If this is Mother Nature's way of spoiling us, I'll take it!
