I spent Spring Break in Anchorage this year, rather than flying out to Nome for the Iditarod. I took in my first Anchorage Aces hockey game and came out to the parking lot after a few hours to discover about four inches of fresh powdery snow on my car. This is Spring Break in Alaska, folks.
Ain't No Sunshine...
Practically the whole month of February was full of sun, sun, and more sun in Juneau. It was ridiculously cold and windy, but sunny nevertheless. Now, there's rain and snow and more rain, which all basically equates to slush EVERYWHERE.
Despite an uncommonly bright, sunglass-worthy month, Juneau still ranks number one in the United States as the Least Sunny City in America. Still, this place is one of my favorites in the world.
Still Here
Hey y'all!
I've been on a bit of a hiatus lately. Practically the whole month of February was uncommonly sunny and ridiculously lovely.
So when life finally slows down, I'll be back, with pictures of ice caves and Denali and the Northern Lights.
Until then,
Candice
Huntsville vs. Kaktovik
Will ya look at that? It's the SAME temperature in my hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, as it is in the Eskimo village of Kaktovik, Alaska. Kaktovik is above the Arctic Circle, where whales are hunted and polar bears roam the sea ice. So there.
