"Memories of Momma" — A 71 Day Photo Tribute (Day 7)

MEMORIES of MOMMA*:

I don't know anything about this picture except my dear sweet Momma was absolutely on fire in that two-piece high-waisted white swimsuit. This fella looks happy to have her attention, and he was lucky to have it, too.

Not sure exactly about the location of this picture, but I'm guessing with those white sand beaches, it's got to be somewhere along the Gulf Coast.

I love the vintage feel of this photo, like it was shot behind-the-scenes on an old movie set. It would be neat to find out who the man is, but at this point, I might not ever know.

*It's Day 7 of my 71 day photo series in honor of my dear sweet Momma who passed away on 03.21.2016 after a harrowing 71 day health battle. Those 71 days do not define her. Oh no. What defines her — and me — are the incredible 66 years that she lived her life. I hope you enjoy these snapshots of the beautiful moments and memories of her life.

MEMORIES of MOMMA*:

May 1960 in Athens, Alabama, just shy of my Mom's 11th birthday. She's standing with her older sister, Anna Faye. I never knew my Aunt Anna Faye. She died from leukemia as a young woman. All I know of her is from old photographs and letters that my Mom kept over the years.

I love the simplicity of this photo and wonder about the story behind it. I'm guessing Betty and Anna Faye got all gussied up in their Sunday finest for church one day. She was such a fashionable lady, even way back then.

MEMORIES of MOMMA*:

Mom and Dad would always joke that Daddy was a country boy and Momma was a city girl. But with how at-ease she looks atop this tractor, you sure can't tell it from this picture! I love her big effortless grin, and she sure was rocking those cigarette pants! So glam!

MEMORIES of MOMMA*:

Mom did NOT like getting dirty or roughing it. She was a true Southern lady, after all. So I don't know what possessed her to go out into this cotton field for a photo op. Okay, okay, I would've done it, too. :) Look at her slay in those little mint green heels and big bouffant!
